Business Laptop with Thunderbolt 3

The HP EliteBook 840 G5 is a 14.0 inch business laptop built around a quad-core Intel Core i7-8650U processor running at 1.9 GHz. It ships with 32 GB of DDR4 memory and a 512 GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD. A 1920 x 1080 FHD display with LED backlight and Intel UHD Graphics 620 complete the core specification. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed.

Suited to mobile professionals needing quiet

This configuration serves professionals who want a lightweight 14 inch chassis with plenty of memory and fast NVMe storage for multitasking and large files. The single Thunderbolt 3 port supports high-speed peripherals and external displays. Buyers who need a dedicated graphics chip, a touchscreen panel, or more than one Thunderbolt 3 connection should look at other models.

Quad-core i7-8650U with 32 GB DDR4 and NVMe SSD

The processor delivers four cores and eight threads at a 15 W thermal design, paired with 32 GB of DDR4 RAM and a 512 GB NVMe drive. This combination determines how smoothly the laptop handles concurrent business applications and large datasets. Systems with fewer cores or less memory will not match this level of responsiveness for heavy workloads.

Questions about this item

How do I install a second M.2 NVMe SSD in the EliteBook 840 G5, and what step is often missed?

The laptop has one M.2 2280 slot occupied by the 512 GB NVMe drive; there is no second M.2 slot, so a second internal NVMe SSD cannot be installed.

What maintenance or replacement will the 512 GB NVMe SSD need later?

The NVMe SSD has no moving parts and requires no scheduled maintenance; replacement is only needed if the drive fails or you need more than 512 GB of storage.

What limit appears first on the Core i7-8650U during sustained heavy workloads?

The 15 W TDP and thermal design cause the quad-core processor to throttle clock speeds after a short period of continuous maximum load.
