Professional ultraportable

The HP EliteBook 840 G6 is a 14.0-inch business laptop built for professionals who need a compact, secure Windows 11 Pro machine. Its quad-core Intel Core i7-8665U processor runs at 1.9 GHz with 8 MB cache, supported by 16 GB DDR4 memory and a 128 GB SSD. The 1920 x 1080 non-touch display uses LED backlighting and Intel UHD Graphics with shared system memory.

Dock-ready connectivity

One Thunderbolt 3 USB-C port, two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, HDMI and Gigabit RJ-45 Ethernet let you attach docks, external displays and wired networks without extra adapters. Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265 handles Wi-Fi, and the integrated webcam supports video calls. The 128 GB SSD keeps the system drive free of mechanical parts, while the 15 W CPU thermal design leaves headroom for slim chassis cooling.

Sustained workload balance

The 15 W quad-core chip maintains steady clocks during long document, browser and video-conference sessions rather than peaking briefly then throttling. Shared graphics memory scales with the 16 GB DDR4 pool, so integrated visuals stay consistent across extended multitasking. Passive thermal management in the silver chassis handles typical office loads without audible fan ramp-up.

Questions about this item

Does the 15 W Intel Core i7-8665U throttle under long workloads?

The 15 W TDP means the quad-core 1.90 GHz chip will hit its power limit first during sustained heavy tasks, so clocks drop to stay within that envelope.

How loud and hot does the EliteBook 840 G6 get when running all day?

The 15 W U-series processor and shared-memory UHD graphics keep heat modest; fan noise stays low for office work but becomes audible under continuous multi-core load.

What must I already own to use the Thunderbolt 3 port?

You need a Thunderbolt 3 cable or dock — the single USB-C port carries 40 Gb/s Thunderbolt 3 plus DisplayPort alt-mode for external monitors.
