Professional ultraportable with touchscreen

The HP EliteBook 840 G7 is a 14.0-inch business laptop built around an Intel Core i5 10210U quad-core processor running at 1.60 GHz. It ships with 32 GB of DDR4 memory and a 512 GB NVMe PCIe M.2 solid-state drive. Windows 11 Pro 64-bit comes pre-installed on this Grade B unit.

Suits mobile workers needing touch input

The convertible touchscreen and dual Thunderbolt 3 ports support docking, external displays and fast peripherals for office or field use. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics rely on shared system memory, so buyers who want discrete graphics performance for rendering or gaming should look at something else.

32 GB DDR4 memory is soldered and not expandable

The 32 GB capacity is fixed at purchase because the modules are not user-replaceable. Buyers who anticipate needing more memory later must choose a different platform. The 512 GB NVMe drive uses a standard M.2 slot and can be swapped for a larger unit if required.

Questions about this item

Does the 15 W Intel Core i5 10210U throttle under sustained load?

The processor runs at a 15 W base power and can boost to higher clocks until the cooling system reaches its thermal limit, at which point speeds drop to stay within that envelope.

How loud does the fan get and how hot does the chassis feel during an all-day workload?

Under continuous use the fan spins up to move heat from the 15 W CPU, producing audible airflow; the aluminium palm-rest and base warm to the touch but remain within normal operating temperatures.

Which peripherals or docks must I already own to use the two Thunderbolt 3 ports?

Any Thunderbolt 3 or USB-C device — monitor, dock, storage drive or power adapter — will work; the ports also accept standard USB 3.1 Gen 1 accessories.
