Target User

This HP EliteBook 850 G2 is a 15.6 inch HD laptop built around a dual-core Intel Core i5-5200U running at 2.20 GHz with a turbo frequency of 2.70 GHz. It comes with 8GB DDR3 memory and a new 240GB NVMe SSD. The Intel HD Graphics 5500 handles the 1366 x 768 display. The unit is sold new without an operating system.

Suitability

It suits buyers who need a straightforward office machine for documents, email and web browsing on a 15.6 inch screen. It is not for users who require a higher resolution panel, a touchscreen, a discrete graphics processor or more than 16 GB of total memory.

Deciding Specification

The single specification that decides fit is the 1366 x 768 HD resolution on a 15.6 inch non-touch display. If that pixel density meets the workflow, the i5-5200U, 8GB DDR3 and 240GB NVMe SSD will support typical business tasks; if sharper visuals or touch input are required, this configuration will not satisfy.

Questions about this item

How can I confirm the Intel Core i5-5200U is running at its 2.70 GHz turbo speed after setup?

Open Task Manager, select the Performance tab, and watch the CPU clock rise to 2.70 GHz when a single-threaded load is applied.

What comes in the box and what must I supply myself?

The laptop, its power adapter, and the pre-installed 240 GB NVMe drive are included; you must provide an operating system licence and installation media.

Is the 8 GB DDR3 configuration enough or should I plan to reach the 16 GB limit?

The board has two slots and supports up to 16 GB; if your workloads exceed 8 GB, add a matching DDR3 module to the free slot.
