HP EliteBook 850 G2 laptop

This 15.6" business laptop uses an Intel Core i5-5200U dual-core processor at 2.20 GHz with a 2.70 GHz turbo frequency. It comes with 16GB DDR3 memory and a new 2TB 2.5" SATA SSD. The HD display shows 1366 x 768 resolution. No operating system is installed, so the buyer must provide one.

Thermals and power profile

The low-voltage i5-5200U processor keeps heat and fan noise modest during office tasks such as documents, email and web browsing. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 5500 shares system memory and draws little extra power. The SSD has no moving parts, reducing both noise and power draw compared with a hard drive.

What the bundle changes

The 16GB DDR3 kit fills both memory slots up to the 16 GB maximum supported, leaving no room for further RAM upgrades. The new 2TB SSD replaces any original drive and adds a large solid-state volume for applications and files. Buyers who need an operating system, additional ports or a higher-resolution screen must source those separately.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 2.5" SATA SSD in the EliteBook 850 G2, and what step is often missed?

Remove the bottom cover, slide the drive into the caddy and secure the screw; the step often missed is re-seating the battery connector before closing the case.

What maintenance will the 16GB DDR3 memory need later?

The memory is soldered to the board and cannot be upgraded; keep the vents clean so the dual-core processor stays cool.

What limit appears first during sustained load on the Intel HD Graphics 5500?

Thermal throttling on the i5-5200U reduces clocks before the 2.70 GHz turbo can be maintained for long periods.
