What this laptop is

The HP EliteBook 850 G3 is a 15.6-inch business laptop with an Intel Core i5-6300U dual-core processor running at 2.40 GHz with a 3.00 GHz turbo frequency. It ships with 8GB of DDR4 memory and a new 240GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD. The 1366 x 768 HD display is non-touch and the system includes Intel HD Graphics 520. No operating system is installed.

Who this suits and who should look elsewhere

This configuration suits buyers who need a portable 15.6-inch chassis with a dual-core 6th-generation processor and fast NVMe storage for office applications or web-based workflows. It is not for users who require a higher-resolution screen, a dedicated graphics processor, a touchscreen, or a pre-installed operating system. Buyers needing more than 32GB of memory should consider other platforms.

Memory ceiling and storage interface

The board provides two memory slots and supports a maximum of 32GB of DDR4. The primary drive is a 240GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD, which determines the storage speed and form factor available for the boot drive.

Questions about this item

Will the Intel Core i5-6300U hit its 3.00 GHz turbo limit quickly under sustained load?

The dual-core processor runs at 2.40 GHz base and can reach 3.00 GHz turbo, but sustained speeds depend on the cooling solution inside the EliteBook 850 G3 chassis.

How loud or hot does the EliteBook 850 G3 get when running all day?

With Intel HD Graphics 520 and a 15 W-class CPU, the 15.6-inch chassis manages heat without extreme fan noise during typical office workloads.

What operating system do I need to supply before the laptop will boot?

The unit ships with no operating system installed, so you must provide your own Windows or Linux installation media to get started.
