Business laptop for self-managed OS

The HP EliteBook 850 G3 is a 15.6-inch silver laptop built for professionals who prefer to install their own operating system. It ships without any OS pre-loaded so the buyer can choose Windows, Linux or another platform. A dual-core Intel Core i5-6300U processor runs at 2.40 GHz and can reach 3.00 GHz when extra performance is needed. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 handles everyday visual tasks on the 1366 x 768 HD display.

New SSD and expandable memory

A brand-new 500 GB 2.5-inch SATA SSD replaces any older mechanical drive and provides fast boot and load times. The system includes 8 GB of DDR4 memory fitted into two slots, and the platform supports up to 32 GB total for users who need more capacity later. Bluetooth and an integrated webcam are built in for communication and peripheral connectivity.

Suits OS-flexible buyers.

This model suits buyers who want a reliable business chassis and the freedom to choose their own software environment. It is not a fit for users who require a touchscreen, a higher-resolution panel or a discrete graphics solution for demanding creative workloads.

Questions about this item

Can the 8 GB of DDR4 memory be upgraded later and what is the maximum supported?

Yes, the laptop has two memory slots and supports up to 32 GB of DDR4, so the existing 8 GB can be expanded.

What limits performance first during sustained heavy workloads on the Core i5-6300U?

The dual-core processor reaches its 3.00 GHz turbo ceiling and thermal envelope before the 500 GB SATA SSD or Intel HD Graphics 520 become bottlenecks.

How loud and hot does the EliteBook 850 G3 get when running all day?

The 15.6 inch chassis and dual-core CPU keep fan noise moderate and surface temperatures warm but not excessive during continuous operation.
