Business laptop for mobile professionals

The HP EliteBook 850 G5 is a 15.6 inch business laptop built for mobile professionals who need a full numeric keypad. It runs Windows 11 Pro on an Intel Core i5-8350U quad-core processor with 16 GB of DDR4 memory in a dual-channel 8 GB x 2 configuration. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 handles everyday visual tasks.

Ports and connectivity limits

The chassis provides two USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports, one USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C port with Thunderbolt, and an HDMI 1.4b output for external displays. Wired networking uses a Gigabit Ethernet RJ-45 jack while wireless relies on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.1. Storage uses a 512 GB SATA or NVME M.2 SSD with no 2.5 inch drive bay present.

Simple setup with configuration notes

Initial setup is straightforward: connect the included OEM AC adapter, power on, and follow the Windows 11 Pro first-run experience. The optional smart-card reader and SIM slot are not guaranteed on every unit. Memory upgrades require matching DDR4 modules and the single M.2 slot limits storage expansion to one drive.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 512 GB SSD or a larger 1 TB drive?

The 512 GB SSD in this unit handles the OS and everyday files well; the 1 TB option simply doubles raw capacity if you store large media libraries locally.

How does the quad-core i5-8350U perform in daily workloads?

Four cores and eight threads keep Windows 11 Pro, office apps and browser tabs responsive, while integrated UHD Graphics 620 covers external 1080p displays.

What does the USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C port with Thunderbolt actually support?

It carries data at up to 5 Gbit/s, drives one 4K monitor and connects Thunderbolt docks or eGPUs for extra ports and graphics.
