Ready for office work

The HP EliteBook 850 G5 is a 15.6 inch laptop with a 1920 x 1080 FHD non-touch display. It runs on an Intel Core i5-8350U quad-core processor with 32GB of DDR4 memory configured as 16 GB x 2. A 256GB SSD provides storage and Windows 11 Pro comes pre-installed. The silver chassis includes a numeric keypad for data entry tasks.

Thermals and power in daily use

Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 handles visual output without a discrete GPU. The system uses USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C with Thunderbolt for docking and charging. Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.1 manage connectivity. Typical office workloads run on the integrated graphics and processor within the standard thermal envelope of the slim chassis.

Accessories and software impact

The bundle includes an OEM AC adapter for immediate power. HP Sure Start protects the BIOS against unauthorised changes. HP Sure Recover offers a path to restore the system image if needed. Intel vPro technology enables remote management for IT departments. Optional smart card reader and SIM slot are not guaranteed on every unit.

Questions about this item

How do I install the two 16 GB DDR4 modules and what step is often missed?

Insert each stick at an angle until the gold contacts disappear, then press down firmly until both side clips click — the second clip often stays loose if you only push one corner.

Which component will likely need replacement first and when?

The internal battery typically degrades after two to three years of daily charging; swap it when run time drops below half of the original span.

What thermal limit appears first during a long compile or render?

The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 hits its thermal ceiling before the quad-core i5-8350U, causing the GPU clocks to throttle while the CPU still has headroom.
