Who this suits and who should look elsewhere

Business users needing Intel vPro manageability and HP Sure Start BIOS protection will appreciate this configuration. The HDMI 1.4b port and Gigabit Ethernet support office docking scenarios. Buyers who want a touchscreen, a smaller 13.3 or 14 inch screen, or a discrete GPU should consider other models.

The spec that decides fit

The Intel Core i7-8650U with integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 determines whether performance meets your workload. This processor handles typical productivity and multitasking within a 15W thermal envelope. If your applications require discrete graphics or higher sustained CPU clocks, this integrated platform will not be sufficient.

Questions about this item

How long does the Intel Core i7-8650U sustain its boost clock before thermal throttling?

The quad-core i7-8650U with integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 shares a single cooling solution; under continuous multi-threaded load the chassis temperature rise will eventually limit sustained turbo frequencies.

What are the fan noise and surface temperatures during an all-day workload?

The aluminum unibody dissipates heat from the 15 W processor and UHD 620 graphics; fan speed ramps with load, so extended use produces audible airflow and warm palm-rest areas.

Which dock or power adapter must I already own to use the docking connector and Thunderbolt 3 Type-C port?

The laptop includes an OEM AC adapter and supports HP docking stations via the proprietary docking connector plus Thunderbolt 3 over USB-C for third-party docks.
