Purpose-built mobile workstation

The HP EliteBook 850 G5 is a 15.6-inch business laptop powered by an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8650U quad-core processor with integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620. It ships with 32GB of DDR4 memory in a 16 GB x 2 configuration and a 1TB solid-state drive. The 1920 x 1080 FHD non-touch display includes a numeric keypad, and Windows 11 Pro is pre-installed.

Compatibility checklist

Verify that your workflow relies on integrated graphics rather than a discrete GPU, as this model uses Intel UHD Graphics 620. Confirm that the available ports — two USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A, one USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C with Thunderbolt, HDMI 1.4b, Gigabit Ethernet, combo audio jack, docking connector, optional smart-card reader and optional SIM slot — match your peripheral and docking requirements. Ensure 32GB of soldered or slotted DDR4 meets your current and near-term memory needs.

Upgrade perspective

This unit replaces earlier dual-core ultrabooks or smaller 13.3-inch and 14-inch EliteBook models when users need a larger screen, quad-core performance and 32GB of memory in a single chassis. The jump is worthwhile if you require the 15.6-inch form factor, the 1TB NVME or SATA SSD capacity and the full complement of legacy and Thunderbolt ports for dock-based workflows. Buyers who need a discrete GPU, a touchscreen or a lighter 13.3-inch device should look elsewhere.
