HP ProCurve zl 1500W Power Supply

The HP J8713A#ABA is a hot-swap AC power supply built for ProCurve zl modular switches. It delivers up to 600 W for chassis operation and 900 W for Power over Ethernet ports. The unit fits 5406zl and 5412zl chassis and is sold new.

Input voltage range and power ceiling

The supply accepts 200–240 VAC at 50/60 Hz and draws up to 10 A. Its maximum rated output is 1800 W, although the chassis splits this into 600 W system power and 900 W PoE power. Operation below 200 VAC is not supported.

PoE budget of 900 W

The 900 W PoE allocation determines how many powered devices the switch can support simultaneously. Buyers needing a larger PoE budget for dense AP or phone deployments cannot meet that need with this module.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 1500 W or 1800 W rating for my switch?

The unit delivers 1500 W total — 600 W for the chassis and 900 W for PoE — while 1800 W is the absolute maximum input rating.

What does the 1500 W headline mean once the supply is installed?

It provides up to 600 W to run the switch and 900 W for attached PoE devices, limited by the 10 A input at 200–240 VAC.

Which voltage standard does the 200–240 VAC input follow, and what does it cap?

It operates on 200–240 VAC at 50/60 Hz, drawing a maximum of 10 A which caps usable power at 1500 W output.
