HP ProBook 640 G1 — Refurbished Business Laptop

This HP ProBook 640 G1 is a refurbished 14.0-inch notebook built for office and mobile work. It runs an Intel Core i5-4300M dual-core processor at 2.60 GHz with 8 GB of DDR3 memory. A 500 GB SSD provides storage and Windows 10 Pro 64-bit comes pre-installed. The 1366 x 768 display and internal speakers complete the core package.

Build Fit — Ports, Power and Upgrade Room

The chassis includes legacy VGA and RJ-45 connectors alongside an optical drive bay, letting older peripherals and wired networks plug in directly. DDR3 memory slots and the 2.5-inch drive bay remain accessible for future capacity increases. Its thinner profile reduces bag bulk while the durable black-and-silver frame handles daily transport. No discrete graphics are present, so external GPU docks are not supported.

Upgrade Context — From Older Cores

This unit replaces ageing dual-core systems still on hard drives or 2nd- and 3rd-generation Intel processors. The jump to a 4th-generation i5 and solid-state storage cuts boot and application load times noticeably. Buyers needing more than 8 GB of RAM, a higher-resolution panel, dedicated graphics or modern USB-C charging should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

Does the dual-core i5-4300M at 2.60 GHz throttle under sustained load?

The processor runs at 2.60 GHz with two cores; sustained workloads will hit thermal limits before the clock can hold indefinitely.

How loud and hot does the 14.0 inch chassis get during all-day use?

The thin 14.0 inch design uses a single fan; expect audible airflow and warm palm rests after several hours of continuous work.

What legacy ports must my existing peripherals use to connect?

The notebook includes VGA and RJ-45 connectors, so older monitors and wired networks plug in directly.
