16-inch 240 Hz gaming laptop

The HP OMEN 16 delivers high-frame-rate play on a 16.0-inch WQXGA IPS panel that runs at up to 240 Hz with a 3 ms response time. An AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX processor with 16 cores and 32 threads powers the system alongside an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU with 8 GB of video memory. It ships with 16 GB of DDR5 RAM and a 1 TB PCIe NVMe SSD under Windows 11 Home.

RTX 5070 8 GB mobile graphics

The single specification that decides fit is the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU with 8 GB of dedicated memory. This GPU tier targets 1440p gaming at high refresh rates and content-creation workloads that benefit from hardware acceleration. Buyers should confirm that their preferred titles and applications list this mobile GPU as supported or recommended.

Thermals noise and power draw

A 6-cell 83 Wh lithium-ion polymer battery supplies mobile power while the chassis measures 15.7 by 10.87 by 0.99 inches and weighs 7.05 lbs. The cooling system manages the 16-core CPU and discrete GPU under sustained load; fan noise rises during heavy gaming sessions but remains contained during lighter productivity work. Power draw scales with GPU and CPU utilisation, peaking when both components hit their maximum boost clocks.

Questions about this item

Will the 16 GB of DDR5 memory be enough for modern AAA titles at the display's native 2560 x 1600 resolution?

The laptop ships with 16 GB of DDR5 and the memory controller supports up to 64 GB, so you can add more modules later if a specific game demands it.

Can I connect an external high-refresh-rate monitor using the available video outputs?

Yes, the HDMI 2.1 port and the USB Type-C port with DisplayPort 1.4 both support high refresh rates at WQXGA resolution and above.

Does the 83 Wh battery provide enough capacity for a full workday away from a power outlet?

Battery life varies with workload; the 6-cell 83 Wh pack is sized for gaming-class hardware, so expect shorter runtime under heavy GPU load and longer runtime for light productivity.
