Compact 1U server for balanced workloads

The HP ProLiant DL160 Gen9 fits a single Intel Xeon E5-2623 v3 quad-core processor at 3 GHz with 16 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory. Two 1 TB 7.2 K SAS drives connect through a Smart HBA H240 controller supporting RAID 0, 1 and 5. Redundant hot-swap 550 W power supplies and eight 2.5-inch drive bays sit in a 1U rack chassis. No operating system is included.

Suits small databases.

This configuration works for teams that need a second compute node, a remote-office hypervisor or a dedicated backup target with hardware RAID. Buyers who need more than 16 GB of installed memory, more than two drives populated or a second processor from day one should look at a different configuration.

Single-socket E5-2623 v3 limits total cores to four

The installed processor provides four physical cores and eight threads, capping the system at 12 cores per socket when fully populated. The board accepts a second Xeon E5 v3 or v4 chip to reach the 36-core chassis maximum, but that CPU is not supplied. Expansion beyond the single-socket limit requires purchasing a compatible second processor separately.

Questions about this item

What rack cabinet and rails are required to mount this 1U server?

The chassis is a 1U rack-mount design; you must provide a standard rack enclosure and compatible sliding rails, which are not included with the server.

Can I keep using my existing 6 Gbps SAS drives with the Smart HBA H240 controller?

Yes, the H240 supports 6 Gbps SATA and 12 Gbps SAS, so your current 6 Gbps SAS drives will operate at their native speed.

How can I verify the installed Xeon E5-2623 v3 and 16 GB DDR4 are recognised after power-on?

During POST the system will display the processor model, core count and total memory; you can also confirm both in the iLO interface or the OS device manager once booted.
