1U rack server with a quad-core Xeon E5-2623 v3, 4 GB DDR4, H240 RAID controller and eight 2.5-inch drive bays
Installed Memory Size 4GB
HDD None
The HP ProLiant DL160 Gen9 is a 1U rack server system built for balanced compute density. It ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2623 v3 quad-core processor at 3 GHz and 4 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory. The chassis supports up to two processors and 16 DIMM slots for large memory footprints. A Smart HBA H240 controller provides hardware RAID 0, 1 and 5 across eight SFF drive bays.
This server suits environments running virtualisation, web serving or light database tasks that fit within a single quad-core CPU and 4 GB base memory. The eight 2.5-inch bays and 12 Gb SAS backplane support high spindle counts for local storage redundancy. It is not for buyers needing dual processors installed, more than 4 GB of memory out of the box, or a discrete graphics adapter for display workloads.
The onboard Smart HBA H240 handles 12 Gb SAS and 6 Gb SATA drives with RAID 0, 1 and 5 across the eight front bays. No drives are included, so the buyer must supply compatible SFF media. This controller choice decides whether the platform matches a storage-first deployment or a compute-first deployment requiring a different HBA or RAID card.

Other versions of this model
The box includes the 1U chassis with a single Xeon E5-2623 v3 processor, 4GB of DDR4 memory, the Smart HBA H240 controller, one 550W hot-swap power supply, and eight 2.5-inch drive trays with screws. You must buy storage drives, an operating system, and any additional memory or second processor separately.
The server supports up to two processors for a total of 36 cores. Adding a second compatible Xeon E5-2600 v3 or v4 CPU doubles the core count and unlocks the second set of eight DIMM slots, raising the maximum memory capacity from 1TB to the full 1TB across all 16 slots.
The H240 controller provides 12Gb SAS and 6Gb SATA connectivity to the eight SFF bays. Each attached drive can run at its full native interface speed, so 12Gb SAS SSDs or HDDs deliver maximum throughput while 6Gb SATA drives operate at their rated limit.
