HP ProLiant DL360 Gen9 8-bay SFF server

This 1U rack server ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2643 v3 six-core processor running at 3.4 GHz and 8 GB of DDR4 memory. It includes the Smart HBA H240ar controller supporting SAS and SATA drives with RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Two 500 W redundant hot-swap power supplies are fitted. No drives or operating system are included.

Suits workloads needing dense 2.5-inch storage in 1U

The eight SFF bays provide high drive density for local storage arrays. The single CPU leaves one socket free for a second processor up to the 36-core platform maximum. Buyers who need drives, an operating system or GPU compute should look elsewhere. The installed 8 GB is far below the 3 TB maximum and will require additional DDR4 modules for most production roles.

Storage controller is Smart HBA H240ar

This controller delivers 12 Gb/s SAS and 6 Gb/s SATA connectivity with hardware RAID across the eight bays. It determines which drive types can be used and what RAID levels are available. Verify that your drives and redundancy requirements match this controller before purchase.

Questions about this item

How do I verify the H240ar controller is managing the 8 SFF bays correctly after setup?

During POST the H240ar BIOS lists each detected drive and the RAID 0/1/5/6/10/50/60 volume status; the iLO interface then shows all 8 bays with green health LEDs and the configured RAID level.

What ships with the server and which items must be sourced separately?

Included: 1U chassis, 8 SFF drive trays with screws, single Xeon E5-2643 v3 3.4 GHz CPU, 8 GB DDR4 ECC RDIMM, H240ar controller, dual 500 W redundant PSUs, Matrox G200 16 MB video. Not included: 2.5" drives, OS, second CPU, extra DDR4 modules up to 2400 MT/s.

Should I choose the single-CPU 8 GB configuration or add a second processor and more memory?

Select the single E5-2643 v3 with 8 GB for lighter workloads; add the second socket and populate up to 24 DDR4 slots (max 3 TB) when you need up to 36 total cores and higher memory bandwidth.
