2U rack server with 16 drive bays, dual Xeon E5-2630 v3 CPUs, 48GB DDR4, P440 RAID controller with 4GB FBWC and dual 500W power supplies
The HP ProLiant DL380 G9 is a 2U rack-mount server system designed for data-centre workloads. It ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2630 v3 eight-core processor running at 2.4GHz and 48GB of DDR4 memory. The chassis provides 16 small-form-factor drive bays populated with two 1TB 7.2K SAS drives. A Smart Array P440 controller with 4GB flash-backed write cache handles RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60.
This configuration suits buyers who need a dense 2U platform with 16 hot-swap bays and hardware RAID but only require one processor today. The 24 DIMM slots allow memory expansion up to the 48GB installed limit with this CPU. Buyers who want more storage bays than 16, or who need dual-processor performance from day one, should look at a different chassis or a two-socket build.
The installed Xeon E5-2630 v3 processor limits the maximum addressable memory to 48GB across the 24 available slots. Adding a second compatible processor would raise the ceiling to 3TB, but with one CPU the 48GB already fitted is the hard limit. Verify that this capacity meets the application requirement before purchase.
