2U rack server with dual 12-core Xeon E5-2670v3 CPUs, 8 GB DDR4 ECC memory, two 1 TB 7.2 K SAS drives, and H240ar RAID controller
Installed Memory Size 8GB
HDD 2 x 1TB
The HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 fits 2U of rack space and ships with two Xeon E5-2670v3 processors, each providing twelve cores at 2.3GHz. Eight gigabytes of DDR4 ECC registered memory are installed across twenty-four DIMM slots. Two 1TB 7.2K SAS drives connect through a Smart HBA H240ar controller. Dual 500W hot-swap power supplies provide redundancy for continuous operation.
The installed 2.5-inch SAS drives are rated for 6Gbps throughput, which limits sequential transfer rates regardless of the controller's 12Gbps capability. The H240ar supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across eight small-form-factor bays. Additional bays can expand the chassis to sixteen or twenty-four drives, but the backplane remains bound to the 6Gbps SAS link speed. SATA drives would share the same physical limit.
The system arrives with only 8GB populated, yet the chipset and twenty-four slots allow up to 3TB when fully loaded with 64GB DDR4 modules at 2400MT/s. Buyers who need more capacity must purchase additional registered ECC DIMMs; the current configuration cannot run memory-intensive workloads or large virtualisation hosts. No NVME or GPU acceleration is present, so compute-bound tasks rely solely on the two twelve-core CPUs.

Other versions of this model
The server ships with 8 GB DDR4 ECC registered memory across 24 DIMM slots; each processor supports up to 12 slots, so you can scale toward the 3 TB maximum using 4 GB, 8 GB, 16 GB, 32 GB or 64 GB modules.
Two E5‑2670v3 processors provide 24 physical cores and 48 threads at 2.3 GHz base frequency, giving strong multi‑threaded throughput for virtualization, databases and compute workloads in the 2U rack form factor.
The H240ar handles RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60 and caps SAS drives at 12 Gb/s and SATA drives at 6 Gb/s, so the installed 7.2 K 1 TB SAS drives run at their native 6 Gb/s link speed.
