2U rack server with dual 12-core Xeon E5-2670 v3 processors at 2.3 GHz, 16 GB DDR4 ECC memory, two 500 GB 7.2 K SATA drives on B140i RAID 0/1/5/10.
Installed Memory Size 16GB
HDD 2 x 500GB
The HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 is a 2U rack server equipped with two Intel Xeon E5-2670 v3 processors. Each CPU provides twelve cores at 2.3 GHz, giving 24 physical cores and 48 threads with hyper-threading. It ships with 16 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory across 24 DIMM slots. The platform targets organisations that need dense compute for virtualisation, databases or general-purpose workloads in a standard rack.
The integrated B140i controller provides software RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10 for SATA drives only. Two 500 GB 7.2 K rpm 2.5-inch enterprise SATA drives are included, installed in the front eight-bay SFF cage. The chassis also accepts optional NVMe drives in bay 2 and a universal media bay in bay 3, while a second eight-bay cage can expand capacity to 16 or 24 drives. Dual 500 W hot-swap power supplies deliver redundancy.
Verify that your rack can accommodate a 2U chassis with redundant power supplies and sufficient airflow for dual 12-core processors. The system supports up to 3 TB of DDR4 ECC registered memory using 4 GB, 8 GB, 16 GB, 32 GB or 64 GB modules at speeds up to 2400 MT/s, limited by the installed CPUs. No operating system is included, so plan for separate OS licensing and installation media. Buyers needing hardware RAID or SAS connectivity should note the B140i is SATA-only.

Other versions of this model
The server has 24 DDR4 DIMM slots in total, 12 per processor. With 16 GB already installed, the remaining slots can accept 4 GB, 8 GB, 16 GB, 32 GB or 64 GB ECC registered modules up to 2400 MT/s.
The B140i software RAID supports SATA only at 6 Gbps. The installed 2.5-inch enterprise drives spin at 7.2 K RPM, so sustained throughput is limited by the mechanical disks rather than the controller link.
Dual 12-core processors at 2.3 GHz and twin 500 W hot-swap PSUs draw significant power, so the eight SFF drive bays and system fans generate noticeable airflow and heat under full-day load.
