Aruba 7280 Wireless LAN Controller

The Aruba 7280 Wireless LAN Controller is a mobility platform designed for enterprise environments that require centralised management of large-scale Wi-Fi deployments. It suits network teams responsible for supporting thousands of concurrent mobile users across distributed sites.

Sustained throughput and device capacity

The 7200 series employs a multi-core processor architecture delivering 32 virtual CPUs to maintain consistent performance under heavy load. It enforces stateful firewall policies at 100 Gbps while supporting up to 32,768 connected mobile devices. AppRF technology provides continuous application-layer visibility without degrading data-plane throughput.

32,768 device limit

The maximum supported device count of 32,768 determines whether this controller matches the scale of the intended deployment. Networks expecting fewer concurrent endpoints may not require this capacity ceiling.

Questions about this item

How much power does the 7280 controller draw when running continuously?

The 7280 uses a multi-core processor with up to 32 virtual CPUs to handle 32,768 devices and 100 Gbps firewall throughput, so power draw scales with that load.

What cabling and network ports must already be in place for the 7280 to operate?

The 7280 connects to the wired network through its uplink ports and requires PoE or a local power source, plus VLAN-configured switches for the managed APs.

Will the 7280 manage older 802.11n access points still mounted in the building?

Yes, the 7200 series supports 802.11ac and earlier Wi-Fi standards, so legacy APs can be adopted and controlled alongside newer ones.
