HPE MSL2024 with 15 LTO-8 Cartridges

The HPE P77036-B25 delivers a 2U rack-mountable tape library pre-configured with one LTO-8 SAS drive and fifteen 30 TB native cartridges. It targets IT teams that need offline, air-gapped backup or long-term archive capacity without managing multiple separate drives. Hardware encryption protects data at rest, and the web-based remote console allows administration from any location.

Suits backup admins needing offline capacity.

This library suits administrators who require unattended, ransomware-resistant backup and archive workflows with room to grow to a second drive. Organisations needing low-latency random access, object-store APIs, or direct-attached disk performance should evaluate disk-based or cloud tiers instead.

Single LTO-8 SAS drive limits concurrent streams

The configuration ships with exactly one LTO-8 drive rated at 300 MB/s native transfer, so only one read or write stream can run at a time. If the backup window demands simultaneous jobs, a second drive kit must be added before deployment.

Questions about this item

What host interface must my server provide for the SAS drive in this library?

The library includes an HPE StoreEver LTO-8 Ultrium 30750 drive with a SAS interface, so the host server needs a compatible SAS HBA or RAID controller and cable.

Can I keep using my existing LTO-7 cartridges in the 24 slots of this MSL2024?

The drive is LTO-8; it reads and writes LTO-8 media and can read LTO-7 cartridges, but it cannot write to LTO-7 tapes.

How do I verify the library is operating correctly after installation?

Use the web-based remote management console to run a diagnostic inventory, confirm all 24 slots and the drive are detected, and check that backup jobs complete at up to 300 MB/s native throughput.
