Power adapter for Aruba Instant On APs

The HPE R3X86A is a 48V 50W AC adapter built for Aruba Instant On wireless access points. It supplies the regulated DC power these devices require for indoor or covered outdoor deployment. Network administrators and small-business installers use it to replace a lost or damaged original supply.

Limited to 50W at 48V output

The adapter delivers a fixed 48V rail at up to 50W, so it cannot power devices that draw more current or operate at a different voltage. It connects to mains AC and presents a single DC barrel jack; there are no selectable voltage steps or additional ports. Installers must verify the AP matches this exact input specification before use.

Replaces the original HPE supply

This unit is a direct replacement for the factory adapter shipped with compatible Instant On models. The jump is worth it when the original brick has failed, been misplaced or when a spare is needed for a cold-swap maintenance kit. It is not suitable for APs that require PoE injection or a higher wattage input.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 48 V 50 W version or a different capacity for my HPE Aruba Instant On access point?

The 48 V 50 W rating matches the power requirement of the supported HPE Aruba Instant On access points, so select this exact model rather than a lower- or higher-wattage alternative.

What does the 50 W figure mean once the adapter is powering an access point in daily use?

It delivers up to 50 watts at 48 volts to the access point, providing enough headroom for full radio performance and PoE passthrough without hitting the adapter’s limit.

Which connector standard does the R3X86A use, and what does that cap in practice?

The barrel-style DC output connector is keyed for HPE Aruba Instant On APs, so it physically prevents mismatched voltage and caps the usable current at the 50 W rating.
