8Gb Dual-Channel FC HBA

The IBM 42D0496 Systemx is an Emulex 8Gb dual-channel PCI-E x4 Fibre Channel host bus adapter designed for IBM System x servers. It provides two 8Gb ports for connecting servers to a Fibre Channel storage network. The adapter uses a standard PCI Express x4 interface for installation in compatible System x chassis. This new component expands server connectivity for storage area networks.

Suits System x SAN builds

This adapter suits administrators adding dual-port 8Gb Fibre Channel connectivity to supported IBM System x servers. Buyers who need a different port speed, a single-port design, or a form factor other than PCI-E x4 should look at something else. Compatibility is limited to the System x platform, so other server brands require a different host bus adapter. Verify the server slot and firmware requirements before purchase.

Questions about this item

Will this 8 Gb dual-channel Fibre Channel HBA work in my System x server that only has PCIe 2.0 x8 slots?

The card uses a PCIe x4 interface and is designed for IBM System x servers; it will negotiate down to the slot's generation and width automatically.

How can I verify the adapter is operating at full 8 Gb speed after installation?

Check the link speed in the Emulex management utility or server BIOS; it should report 8 Gbps per port when connected to an 8 Gb fabric.
