Questions about this item

Will the four Ethernet ports on the 49Y4242 require any firmware updates or module replacements over time?

The adapter uses the Intel I340 controller; firmware updates are available from Intel if needed, but no scheduled module replacements are required for the ports themselves.

What limits throughput first when all four ports run at sustained load on the I340-T4?

The PCI Express x4 host interface and the I340 controller set the maximum aggregate throughput; the four Gigabit ports share that upstream bandwidth.
