Add M.2 NVMe storage to any desktop

This PCIe 3.0 x4 expansion card adds an M-key M.2 slot to motherboards that lack one. It accepts NVMe SSDs in 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280 form factors and fits PCIe x1, x4, x8 or x16 slots. The low-profile bracket makes it suitable for 2U chassis.

Limited to PCIe 3.0 x4 bandwidth

The host interface caps sequential throughput at the PCIe 3.0 x4 maximum, so drives rated for PCIe 4.0 or 5.0 will run at 3.0 speeds. SATA-based M.2 drives are not supported regardless of keying. Windows 7, 8 and 10 work without extra drivers; Windows XP is not supported.

Handles 3200 MB/s reads and 1500 MB/s writes

Those figures represent the practical ceiling of the PCIe 3.0 x4 link, so high-end NVMe SSDs will saturate the adapter before they hit their own rated limits. The vented gold-finish PCB aids thermal performance, but sustained heavy workloads may still throttle drives that lack their own heatsinks.

Questions about this item

Which M.2 SSD lengths does this card accept?

It fits 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280 drives, covering 30 mm, 42 mm, 60 mm and 80 mm lengths.

What real-world throughput can I expect from the 3200 MB/s headline figure?

The card passes through a PCIe 3.0 x4 link, so sequential reads top out near 3200 MB/s and writes near 1500 MB/s with a capable NVMe drive.

Does the PCIe 3.0 x4 interface limit the speed of a Gen 4 or Gen 5 SSD?

Yes, the x4 3.0 host caps bandwidth at the 3200 MB/s read and 1500 MB/s write figures quoted for this adapter.
