Trellis for Climbing Plants

The IKEA ASKHOLMEN trellis provides structured support for climbing plants in gardens or on balconies. Its dark brown stained finish suits outdoor settings while helping greenery grow upward. It is designed for gardeners who want to train vines against walls or fences.

Flexible Mounting Options

This trellis replaces fixed-size lattice panels that cannot adapt to changing plant dimensions. You can mount it vertically or horizontally and adjust the width or height to match the available space. The jump is worth it when your planting area is irregular or when growth patterns shift each season.

Pre-Treated Wood Construction

The semi-transparent wood stain protects the timber from moisture and UV exposure so the structure lasts longer outdoors. No additional sealant is required before installation, freeing up time for planting. It attaches to existing wall fixings or fence posts without specialised brackets.

Questions about this item

How is the trellis mounted to a wall or fence?

Fix it to a vertical surface using screws or hooks appropriate for the wall material, then choose vertical or horizontal orientation before securing the adjustable slats in place.

What is the most common mistake when installing the ASKHOLMEN trellis?

Tightening the adjustable slats before deciding on the final width or height, which makes later adjustment difficult and can misalign the plant support.

How should the dark brown wood stain be maintained over time?

Clean the surface annually and reapply a compatible semi-transparent wood stain when the colour fades or water stops beading on the timber.
