Industrial Air Impact Wrench

The Ingersoll/Rand 1720P1 is a pneumatic impact wrench built for industrial duty. It delivers 600 ft-lb of fastening torque and 1,100 ft-lb of breakaway torque at a free speed of 5,500 RPM. The tool runs on compressed air at 90 psi and suits heavy mechanical work.

Compressed air requirements

Operation requires a 40 cfm air supply through a minimum 1/2 in hose with a 3/8 in NPT inlet. The wrench accepts pressures from 90 to 100 psi and exhausts through the bottom. It needs no electrical outlet, freeing bench space and removing cable trip hazards in the workshop.

Noise and air consumption

The impact mechanism produces 98 dB and 1,000 impacts per minute during use. Continuous speed control lets the operator match output to the task without fixed steps. Air consumption stays at 40 cfm, so the compressor must sustain that flow for uninterrupted operation.

Questions about this item

At 40 cfm air consumption what compressor size keeps the 1720P1 running continuously?

A compressor delivering at least 40 cfm at 90 psi with a large enough tank to avoid pressure drop will sustain the wrench without starving it.

With a 98 dB impact sound level how loud is the 1720P1 during all‑day shop use?

At 98 dB the tool is comparable to a loud motorcycle; hearing protection is recommended for extended sessions.

The 3/8 in NPT air inlet and 1/2 in minimum hose size mean I need which fittings and hose ready?

You need a 3/8 NPT quick‑connect or coupler on the tool side and a 1/2 in ID air hose rated for 100 psi to supply full flow.
