MCIO 38P PCIe 5.0 Cable and U.2 Adapter Kit
This kit connects a host MCIO 38P PCIe 5.0 port to a U.2 SFF-8639 device using a 50cm cable. A second adapter board converts that U.2 connection to an M.2 NVMe drive. The assembly is designed and made in Taiwan for system integrators adding high-speed storage to compatible platforms.
PCIe Gen5 Changer Type for 5.0 Link Speed
The cable and adapter are specified as PCIe Gen5 changer type, meaning they carry a PCIe 5.0 signal across the MCIO 38P, U.2 and M.2 interfaces. This single specification determines whether the link can operate at 5.0 speeds; a host or drive limited to an earlier generation will negotiate down automatically.
Hot-Plug Protection and Power Regulation Under Load
The adapter board includes a 12V input rail with a 5A fuse, 400W bidirectional TVS and a 5A Schottky rectifier. A synchronous buck converter delivers 3.3V at up to 5.5A with output discharge, over-current, under-voltage and thermal shutdown protection. A built-in 3.3V hotswap controller with 6.5A continuous rating and 32m ohm NexFET manages inrush current during sustained drive insertion and removal cycles.

Questions about this item
What does PCIe 5.0 mean for drive speed once the cable is installed?
The cable carries PCIe 5.0 signals so a connected drive can run at its rated Gen 5 throughput, limited only by the drive and host controller.
Which pin-out standard does the U.2 connector follow and what does that limit?
The U.2 connector follows SFF-9402 Rev 1.1, defining the pin-out for PCIe 5.0 operation up to the cable’s 50 cm length.
What clearance and power connections does the adapter need to fit in a chassis?
The adapter plugs into a U.2 bay, accepts an M.2 NVMe module, and draws 12 V through a built-in 5 A fuse with TVS and rectifier protection.
