Purpose-built PCIe 5.0 link
This adapter connects an MCIO 38-pin host port to a U.2 drive using a 100cm cable and an included M.2-to-U.2 converter board. It targets builders who need to place NVMe storage away from the motherboard while keeping full Gen5 bandwidth. The kit suits servers or workstations where drive bays are distant from the CPU complex.
Build integration
The 100cm cable provides routing flexibility inside dense chassis, and the converter board accepts a single M.2 drive that plugs into the U.2 end. On-board 12V input protection includes a 5A fuse, 400W bidirectional TVS and a Schottky barrier rectifier. A synchronous buck converter generates 3.3V for the M.2 device with a 5.5A peak output limit and discharge control.
Sustained operation
The 3.3V rail uses a 32mΩ NexFET with reverse-current block and a hot-swap controller rated for 6.5A continuous current. Protection covers over-current, under-voltage, over/under-voltage and thermal shutdown. An SMBus EEPROM stores 64KB and level-shifts CLKREQ#, WAKE# and SMBus between 1.8V and 3.3V domains. A red LED blinks to show drive activity status.

Questions about this item
What is the maximum continuous current the adapter can deliver to an M.2 NVMe drive?
The on-board PWM buck converter supplies up to 5.5 A continuous output current to the M.2 NVMe SSD.
How much heat must the system dissipate when the adapter runs at full load all day?
The adapter includes thermal shutdown protection and a 32 mΩ NexFET to limit self-heating, but total chassis dissipation depends on the installed SSD and airflow.
Which host connector and slot width does the MCIO 38P end require on the motherboard?
It plugs into an MCIO 38-pin PCIe 5.0 receptacle on the host board.
