PCIe Gen4 to U.3 Adapter
This Innocard adapter converts a PCIe 4.0 x4 slot into a U.3 (SFF-8639) connector for 2.5" SSDs. It targets server and industrial integrators who need hot-plug capability and remote drive management through a standard add-in card form factor.
U.3 PWRDIS and PERST# Support
The on-board SMBus I/O expander at address 0x41 provides direct PWRDIS control for U.3 NVMe SSDs. A PCIe PERST# signal enables out-of-band reset, while a clock buffer at 0x6C drives longer cable traces without signal degradation.
Hot-Plug Power and Signal Integrity
Integrated 12 V hot-plug power with a 6.5 A programmable current limit and 400 W TVS protection supplies the drive safely. Bidirectional voltage translators for WAKE# and CLKREQ# maintain open-drain signalling over extended cables, and the design meets JESD 78 Class II latch-up immunity.

Questions about this item
How does the PCIe 4.0 x4 link perform when a U.3 NVMe SSD is installed in a workstation?
The adapter converts a U.3 (SFF-8639) drive to a PCI Express 4.0 x4 connection, so the SSD runs at the full Gen4 lane speed the platform provides.
What does the on-board SMBus I/O expander at address 0x41 actually control?
It manages the U.3 SSD PWRDIS signal, letting the host enable or disable power to the drive over the SMBus.
What clearance and power connectors are required to mount a 2.5" U.3 drive on this card?
The board carries a built-in 30 µ SFF-8639 connector for the drive and supplies 12 V hot-plug power with a 6.5 A programmable current limit and 400 W TVS protection.
