This adapter converts an M.2 NVMe drive to a U.2 SFF-8639 interface using a pin-out defined by SFF-9402 Rev 1.1. It targets system integrators and technicians who need to install M.2 storage into enterprise backplanes or test equipment that only accept the 2.5-inch form factor. Built-in 3.3V Hot-Plug Power Controller

The decisive specification is the integrated PWM synchronous buck converter that steps 12V input down to a regulated 3.3V rail for the M.2 device. A NexFET power MOSFET with 32m ohm resistance and reverse-current protection enables hot-plug insertion while a programmable inrush slew-rate limits surge current to a maximum continuous 6.5A.

Protection Features Under Sustained Load

Continuous operation is guarded by output overcurrent protection, undervoltage lock-out monitoring and thermal shutdown circuitry. The 12V input rail carries a 5A fuse, a 5A Schottky barrier rectifier and a 400W bidirectional TVS diode to absorb transients. Output discharge control and over/under voltage protection maintain rail stability during prolonged heavy I/O.
