Intel

Intel DC S3520 1.20 TB 2.5" SATA Solid State Drive

SKU CH-T64X-GKYTX

A 1.20 TB internal 2.5" SATA solid-state drive delivering 450 MB/s read and 380 MB/s write speeds with 256-bit encryption for read-intensive workloads

  • 20 TB capacity stores large datasets
  • 450 MB/s max read speed accelerates data access
  • 380 MB/s max write speed handles write-intensive tasks
  • 256-bit encryption protects sensitive information
  • 5" SATA form factor fits standard drive bays

Read-intensive SATA SSD for servers

The Intel DC S3520 Series drive provides 1.20 TB of solid-state storage in a 2.5" internal form factor. It targets read-intensive workloads such as boot volumes, web serving and analytics. The 256-bit encryption standard helps protect data at rest.

SATA 600 interface caps throughput

Sequential reads reach 450 MB/s and writes reach 380 MB/s on the SATA/600 interface. These speeds are limited by the SATA bus rather than the NAND, so the drive cannot exceed the 600 MB/s ceiling of the standard. Performance consistency is prioritised over peak bandwidth.

Check SATA power and bay clearance

Verify your chassis has a 2.5" bay and a SATA power connector for the 0.3" high drive. The 2.33 oz weight is negligible for mounting, but the SATA data and power cables must reach the drive location. No wireless or PCIe connection is present.

Questions about this item

Which capacity of the Intel DC S3520 should I choose for a read-intensive server workload?

The 1.20 TB model provides 450 MB/s read and 380 MB/s write speeds over SATA 600, suited for boot, web serving and light database tasks.

What do the 450 MB/s read and 380 MB/s write figures mean once the drive is installed in a server?

They are the maximum sequential transfer rates the controller can sustain over the SATA 600 link; real-world throughput will be lower depending on queue depth and workload mix.

The drive uses a SATA 600 interface — what does that cap in practice?

The SATA 600 interface limits the drive to a theoretical 6 Gb/s bus ceiling, so sustained reads top out at 450 MB/s and writes at 380 MB/s regardless of NAND speed.
