16GB M.2 2280 PCIe NVMe 3.0 x2 system accelerator that pairs with a SATA HDD to boost responsiveness, delivering up to 900 MBps read and 145 MBps write
This Intel Optane MEMPEK1W016GAXT module adds 16GB of high-speed caching to a desktop or notebook with an M.2 2280 slot. It works as a system accelerator paired with a SATA HDD, targeting users who want quicker boot and application response without replacing their large-capacity drive. The PCIe NVMe 3.0 x2 interface delivers up to 900 MBps sequential read and 145 MBps sequential write speeds.
The bundled intelligent software automatically learns usage patterns to prioritise frequently accessed data on the Optane module. This changes everyday operation by reducing average read latency to 8 µs and write latency to 30 µs, enabling up to 190,000 random read IOPS and 35,000 random write IOPS. The result is noticeably shorter boot times, faster application launches and more responsive file searches while the HDD retains bulk storage capacity.
Installation requires a 7th Generation or newer Intel Core processor, an Optane-ready motherboard with a compatible M.2 slot, and a SATA HDD configured in the correct BIOS mode. The module draws 1W idle and 3.5W active within a 0°C to 70°C operating range. Common problems include the drive not appearing as a boot device when the SATA controller is not set to the required mode, or the acceleration software failing to enable if the processor generation or chipset support is missing.

The module works with 7th or 8th generation Intel Core processors on an Optane-ready motherboard that has an M.2 2280 slot supporting PCIe 3.0 x2.
No, it is designed as a cache accelerator and must be paired with a SATA HDD; the 16GB capacity is too small for an operating system and applications.
Active power consumption is 3.5W and idle consumption is 1W, so a standard M.2 slot can supply enough power without extra cables.
