Copper distance and slot requirements

10GBase-T reaches up to 100 metres on Cat6a or better twisted pair, but shorter or lower-grade cables will reduce the link speed. The adapter needs an x8 electrical connection; an x4 slot halves the available bandwidth and may prevent full 10 GbE throughput. Power draw and thermal output rise with both ports active at line rate.

PCI Express x8 host interface
