Compact AC wall charger with foldable plug powers Sony NP-FM500H batteries at 8.4 V 600 mA and shows charge status via LED indicators
This Kastar AC wall charger replaces the Sony BC-VM10 and AC-SQ950 units. It accepts the Sony NP-FM500H lithium-ion battery used in a long list of Alpha DSLR and SLT bodies from the A200 through the A900 and the SLT-A57 to SLT-A77 II series. The foldable flat plug makes it compact for travel bags. Photographers who need a spare or replacement mains charger for these batteries will find it fits the same power socket.
The charger operates from 100 to 240 volts AC at 50 or 60 hertz and delivers 8.4 volts DC at 600 milliamps. A red LED shows charging in progress and a green LED signals standby or full charge. Because the output current is fixed at 600 mA, the unit maintains a steady trickle rather than a rapid burst, so a depleted NP-FM500H will take several hours to reach the green indication. Users who need multiple batteries ready for a full day of shooting should plan charging cycles accordingly.
Simply unfold the flat pins, plug the unit into a mains socket and slide the battery into the moulded cradle until it clicks. No cables or external power bricks are required. The most frequent problem is inserting the battery backwards; the contacts only align one way. Travellers should verify that the local mains voltage falls within the 100 to 240 volt range, although this covers most countries. The compact 3 by 2 by 1 inch case leaves little room for debris, so keep the contacts clean.

It draws 100 to 240 V AC at 50 to 60 Hz and outputs 8.4 V at 600 mA, so continuous use produces only modest warmth.
It charges Sony NP-FM500H lithium-ion packs used in Alpha models from the A200 through the A99 II.
No — it only charges the NP-FM500H battery; the camera itself must be powered by that battery once charged.
