Four-Bay USB Charger for Sony NP-FW50

The Kastar charger powers up to four Sony NP-FW50 or W-series batteries simultaneously from any 5 V USB source. Micro-USB and USB-C inputs are provided and a USB-C cable is included. An on-board display shows charge status and capacity for each bay.

Who this suits and who it does not

Ideal for photographers using Alpha 6000, 6300, 6400, 6500, 7, 7 II, 7R, 7R II, 7S, 7S II, ZV-E10, NEX or Cyber-shot RX10 models who want to replenish several packs at once without a wall wart. Not for shooters who need AC-powered charging out of the box or who use V-mount or Gold-mount block batteries.

Deciding specification: quad 8.4 V 800 mA output

Each bay delivers 8.4 V at 800 mA when one or two batteries are fitted, dropping to 500 mA per bay with three or four cells. The 15 W input limit means total charge current is shared across all occupied slots, so full-speed charging only happens with one or two packs.

Questions about this item

Should I pick a single-slot or the quadruple version if I need to charge four NP-FW50 packs at once?

The quadruple charger handles four batteries simultaneously, delivering 8.4 V at 800 mA each for one or two cells and 500 mA each when three or four are inserted.

What does the 15 W input rating mean for actual charge time on a depleted NP-FW50?

At 5 V 2-3 A the unit draws up to 15 W, so a single battery charges at 800 mA while four batteries share 500 mA each, extending the cycle accordingly.

Can I power this from any USB-C port, or does it need a specific PD profile?

The charger accepts 5 V 2-3 A through either Micro-USB or USB-C, so any standard USB-C source supplying 15 W will operate it.
