Kensington ICONVERTER XGT+ 10GBASE-T Module

The Kensington ICONVERTER XGT+ is a 10GBASE-T switch module built for 10 Gigabit Ethernet links. It fits SFP+ ports and presents an RJ45 copper interface for direct cabling. Network engineers and integrators use it to extend 10 GbE over twisted pair in data centres or campus LANs. It ships new and ready for immediate deployment.

Practical limits of 10GBASE-T over SFP+

10GBASE-T over SFP+ modules draw more power than optical transceivers and generate extra heat inside the switch chassis. The copper link is restricted to shorter distances than fibre, typically requiring Cat6a or better cabling for full reach. Latency is slightly higher than native fibre SFP+ optics. Buyers who need longer runs or lower power should evaluate fibre-based SFP+ alternatives.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the SFP+ fiber or the RJ45 copper version for my 10 GbE link?

The module provides both an SFP+ fiber port and an RJ45 copper port in one unit, so you can connect either media type without selecting a separate version.

What does the 10 GbE rating mean when the module is installed in a live switch?

It delivers a full 10 gigabit per second link over either the SFP+ fiber interface or the RJ45 copper interface, limited only by the cabling and the host switch port speed.
