65W AC Adapter for Surface Devices

This 65W charger powers Microsoft Surface Pro, Laptop, Go, Studio and Book models listed in the compatibility data. It replaces lower-wattage units and charges a Pro 8 fully in 1.5 hours. Buyers needing a single adapter for multiple Surface generations will find it useful.

Practical limits of the 15V 4A output

The adapter delivers 15 volts at 4 amps for a maximum of 65 watts. It also supports 44W, 39W, 36W and 24W profiles for older devices. Units requiring more than 65W or a different voltage cannot use this charger.

The 65W rating decides fit

The single specification that determines suitability is the 65W maximum output at 15V 4A. If the target device draws 65W or less at that voltage the adapter works; if it needs higher power or a different voltage it will not.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 65W adapter instead of a 44W or 36W model for my Surface Pro 8?

The 65W unit delivers 15V 4A output and can fully charge a Surface Pro 8 in 1.5 hours, while lower-wattage chargers such as 44W, 39W, 36W or 24W models charge more slowly.

What does the 65W rating mean when I plug this into my Surface Laptop 5?

At 15V 4A the adapter supplies up to 65 watts, so the laptop draws the power it needs for fast charging and simultaneous use without being limited by a lower-capacity brick.

Does the connector follow the Surface Connect standard and will it work with my Surface Go 3?

Yes, the charger uses the proprietary Surface Connect interface and is listed as compatible with Surface Go 3, Go 2, Go 1 and all Surface Pro and Laptop models from the supplied model-number list.
