50 ft 14/3 Outdoor Extension Cord

This 50 ft yellow extension cord uses 14 AWG conductors rated at 15 A and 125 V for 1875 W maximum load. It terminates in NEMA 5-15P and 5-15R plugs and carries ETL/cETL listing for safety compliance. The SJTW jacket remains flexible down to -40°C and meets IP65 waterproof rating for year-round outdoor use. A lighted socket indicator confirms when power is present.

Replaces lighter indoor cords

Swapping a standard indoor cord for this SJTW cable adds cold-weather flexibility, IP65 ingress protection and a 1500 V high-voltage test margin. The upgrade is worth it whenever the cord must survive rain, snow, abrasion or repeated coiling in sub-zero temperatures. The strain-relief design withstands more than 20000 bend cycles without failure. Indoor-only cords lack these durability features.

15 A 125 V circuit limit

The cord is rated for 15 A at 125 V, so it cannot serve loads that exceed 1875 W on a single circuit. Voltage drop over 50 ft may reduce available power for high-draw motors such as large compressors or heaters. The IP65 rating protects the jacket and connectors from water jets but does not make the plugs submersible. Users needing higher current or longer runs must select a larger gauge.

Questions about this item

What clearance does the NEMA 5-15P male plug need when inserted into a standard 125 V 15 A receptacle?

The plug includes a long strain-relief moulding; allow extra depth behind the faceplate so the relief is not crushed against the wall.

Which step is most often missed when connecting the cord for outdoor use?

Users often forget to seat the female NEMA 5-15R connector fully until the indicator light glows, confirming the 1500 V-tested contacts are engaged.

What part of the cord should be inspected first after a season of -40 °C to 100 °C exposure?

Check the SJTW jacket and the strain-relief boots for cracking or abrasion; the vinyl is rated for 20 000 bend cycles but extreme temperature swings accelerate wear.
