Questions about this item

What does the 260 MB/s speed mean when the drive is connected to a USB 3.1 Gen 2 port?

It is the maximum sequential read and write throughput the drive can sustain on that interface, so large video files or photo libraries transfer at up to that rate.

How does USB 3.1 Gen 2 limit the real-world transfer ceiling of this 16 TB drive?

The 10 Gb/s bus caps sustained throughput at roughly the advertised 260 MB/s, so the drive cannot exceed that ceiling even though the internal 7200 RPM mechanism could run faster on a quicker interface.

What clearance does the 7.42 x 2.36 x 5.12 inch chassis need on a desk or shelf?

The unit occupies that footprint and requires a nearby mains outlet for the external power supply; allow extra space for the two cables and ventilation around the aluminium enclosure.
