Portable USB-C hard drive with recycled materials

The LaCie STLP1000400 is a 1 TB portable hard drive that connects over USB-C 3.1 Gen 1. Its enclosure uses at least 25 per cent recycled plastic and aluminium by weight and features a laser-etched Moon Silver finish. The drive is powered directly from the host port and works with Windows, macOS and iPadOS without extra drivers.

For users who want simple plug-and-play backup

This drive suits anyone who needs a single-cable solution for photos, videos and documents across a PC, Mac or iPad with a USB-C port. The included LaCie Toolkit software enables one-click and automatic folder mirroring. Buyers who require hardware encryption, ruggedised drop protection or solid-state speeds should consider other options.

USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C interface determines transfer

The drive uses a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C connection, which sets the maximum data throughput for file copies and backups. This interface also supplies power so no separate adapter is needed. Verify that your device offers a USB-C port supporting at least USB 3.1 Gen 1 to achieve the expected performance.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 1TB version or a larger capacity for my photo library?

The 1TB model stores up to 500k high-resolution photos or 165 hours of video; larger capacities up to 5TB are available if you need more space.

What does the USB 3.2 Gen 1 label mean for real-world transfer speeds?

USB 3.2 Gen 1 operates at 5 Gbps, the same as USB 3.1 Gen 1, so large file copies will be limited by the mechanical drive rather than the interface.

Which devices can I connect with the USB-C 3.1 port on this drive?

The USB-C 3.1 port works with PC, Mac and iPad USB-C devices for plug-and-play storage and backup.
