Lenovo 0A33988 Slim External DVD Burner

The Lenovo 0A33988 is a slim external DVD writer that connects through USB 2.0. It reads and writes CDs at 24x and DVDs at 8x. The drive draws power from one or two USB ports using the included Y cable so no separate adapter is required. Its black tray-load chassis measures .67 by 5.5 by 5.2 inches.

Suits users adding optical media to a laptop

This unit works well for anyone who needs to install software from disc, archive files to DVD±R DL or create audio CDs on a modern notebook. It is not for buyers who want Blu-ray recording or playback because the specifications list only CD and DVD media support. It is also not for systems that lack USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 ports compatible with the Y-cable power arrangement.

USB Y cable removes the need for a wall wart

The bundled Y cable lets the drive operate from one or two USB ports depending on the host's current capability. No external power brick is included or necessary, which keeps the kit light at 8.82 oz and simplifies travel. There is no mention of bundled burning software, so the drive relies on the operating system or third-party applications for disc authoring.

Questions about this item

Does the Lenovo 0A33988 need a separate power adapter or does it draw power from the USB 2.0 port?

The drive is powered by one or two available USB 2.0 ports using the included USB Y cable; no external power adapter is included or necessary.

Will the Lenovo 0A33988 read and write my existing DVD-RAM and double-layer discs?

Yes, the specifications list DVD-RAM at 5X and double-layer DVD+R DL and DVD-R DL at 6X, so your current media is supported.

How can I confirm the Lenovo 0A33988 is operating correctly after connecting it?

The system should recognise the drive as a USB 2.0 DVD-Writer; you can verify by opening a disc and checking that read speeds reach 24X for CD and 8X for DVD.
