Lenovo Samsung PM981 1TB NVMe SSD

This Lenovo Samsung PM981 1TB M.2 2280 PCIe NVMe SSD is a new internal drive for Lenovo ThinkPad and ThinkStation laptops. It uses an M.2 2280 form factor with a PCIe 3.0 x4 interface and Samsung's Phoenix controller with 64-layer NAND.

Suits ThinkPad upgrades needing 1TB NVMe speed

It suits owners of compatible Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga, Edge, or Helix models seeking 1TB capacity and NVMe performance. Builders needing a different physical connector or a lower-capacity drive should look elsewhere.

PCIe 3.0 x4 interface with 3500 MB/s read

The PCIe 3.0 x4 interface delivers sequential reads up to 3500 MB/s and writes up to 3200 MB/s. This specification determines whether the drive matches the system's slot capability and throughput requirement.

Questions about this item

What is included with the Lenovo Samsung PM981 1TB M.2 2280 PCIe NVMe SSD and what must be purchased separately?

The drive itself is supplied; retail or OEM packaging may vary. No cables, brackets, screws or cloning software are included, so a compatible M.2 screw and any migration tool must be sourced separately.

Which capacity of the Samsung PM981 M.2 2280 NVMe SSD should I choose for a ThinkPad upgrade?

This listing is the 1 TB model, offering 1024 GB of storage. Choose it if you need that capacity; other capacities are separate SKUs not covered here.

What do the 3500 MB/s read and 3200 MB/s write figures mean once the PM981 is installed in a laptop?

They are peak sequential speeds over the PCIe 3.0 x4 interface. Real-world throughput depends on the system’s thermal limits, workload type and controller firmware, so sustained rates will be lower.
