Compact All-in-One Desktop

The Lenovo ThinkCentre M720q Tiny combines a 24-inch Full HD IPS display with an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8700 hexa-core processor reaching 4.60 GHz. It ships with 8 GB DDR4 memory, a 512 GB M.2 SSD plus a 1 TB hard drive, DVD-ROM drive, USB Wi-Fi and Bluetooth dongle, keyboard, mouse and Windows 11 Pro pre-installed.

Thermals Noise and Power Draw

The 65 W processor runs inside a micro form-factor chassis that relies on a compact internal fan for cooling. In typical office workloads the system stays quiet and power consumption remains modest, with the included USB wireless dongle adding negligible draw. The all-in-one design keeps cable clutter low and the single power brick supplies both the PC and the 24-inch panel.

Sustained Load Behaviour

Under continuous multi-threaded tasks the hexa-core CPU can maintain elevated frequencies within its 65 W envelope, while the Intel UHD Graphics handles basic video and light GPU compute. The dual-drive layout keeps the operating system responsive on the SSD while the 1 TB hard drive absorbs large sequential writes without throttling the boot volume. Memory is limited to the installed 8 GB DDR4, so heavy multitasking may hit capacity limits.

Questions about this item

How do I install additional DDR4 memory in the M720q Tiny and which step is often missed?

Open the chassis, insert the 240-pin DDR4 UDIMM module until it clicks, then enable the new capacity in BIOS; the step most users miss is the BIOS confirmation.

Which storage drive will likely need replacement first under heavy write workloads?

The 512 GB M.2 SSD handles the operating system and frequent writes, so it will reach its endurance limit before the 1 TB hard drive.

What thermal limit appears first during sustained multi-core loads on the i7-8700?

The 65 W processor hits its thermal ceiling and engages Intel Turbo Boost throttling, capping clocks below the 4.60 GHz maximum.
