Tiny desktop for office work

The Lenovo ThinkCentre M720q is a micro-form-factor desktop powered by an Intel Core i7-8700 hexa-core processor reaching 4.60 GHz. It ships with 32 GB of DDR4 memory and a 128 GB 2.5-inch SSD. Windows 11 Pro is pre-installed along with a USB keyboard, mouse and a Wi-Fi/Bluetooth dongle. The compact black chassis suits space-constrained desks and VESA mounts.

Upgrade from older SFF or tower PCs

This unit replaces bulky small-form-factor or full-tower desktops that use 4th-to-7th-generation Intel Core processors. The jump is worth it when you need six cores and twelve threads for heavier multitasking, faster single-thread speeds up to 4.60 GHz and a smaller footprint. Buyers who need more than 128 GB of fast storage or a discrete graphics card for GPU-accelerated workloads should look elsewhere.

Simple drop-in deployment

The Tiny chassis opens without tools for memory or 2.5-inch drive swaps. The included USB Wi-Fi/Bluetooth dongle occupies one port; verify you have a spare USB socket if you also use wired peripherals. The 65 W processor stays within the integrated power supply limits, so no external brick upgrade is required. Ensure your monitor uses HDMI or DisplayPort because legacy VGA is not present.

Questions about this item

What physical space does the 2.5" 128 GB SSD need inside the ThinkCentre M720q Tiny case?

The Micro form factor chassis has an internal 2.5-inch drive bay that accepts the supplied 128 GB solid-state drive without an adapter.

Which step is often missed when adding more DDR4 memory to the 32 GB already installed?

The board uses 240-pin DIMM slots; buyers sometimes purchase laptop SO-DIMMs instead of the required desktop UDIMMs.

What component will need replacement first if the optical drive stops reading discs?

The internal DVD-ROM drive is the only optical device; when it fails the whole unit must be swapped for another 5.25-inch slim drive.
