Compact business desktop

The Lenovo ThinkCentre M720s is a small-form-factor desktop built around an Intel Core i7-8700 hexa-core processor running at 3.20 GHz with turbo up to 4.60 GHz. It ships with 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a 1 TB 2.5-inch solid-state drive. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed, making it ready for office deployment.

65 W processor in a small chassis

The i7-8700 operates at a 65 W thermal design power, which the SFF case and internal fan manage during typical workloads. Intel UHD Graphics 630 handles display output without a discrete card, keeping power draw and noise low for standard business applications. The system supports up to 32 GB of DDR4 across two 240-pin DIMM slots.

Keyboard, mouse and optical drive included

A USB keyboard and USB mouse are bundled so the system works straight from the box. A DVD-ROM drive provides legacy media access for installations or archives. Wireless connectivity comes via a USB dongle capable of 5 GHz operation, while Bluetooth is also present for peripherals.

Questions about this item

How do I install more DDR4 memory in the M720s SFF, and what step is often missed?

Open the SFF case, align the 240-pin DDR4 UDIMM with the slot notch, press firmly until the retention clips click, then enable the new capacity in BIOS — skipping the BIOS step leaves the extra memory unseen by Windows 10 Pro.

Which component will need replacement first under heavy daily use?

The DVD-ROM drive has moving parts that wear out before the 1 TB solid-state drive or the 65 W Intel Core i7-8700 processor, so expect to replace the optical drive first.

What thermal limit appears first when the i7-8700 runs at 4.60 GHz for long periods?

The 65 W TDP ceiling is reached before the 12 MB cache or UHD Graphics 630 throttle, so sustained turbo clocks drop once the cooler hits its 65 W dissipation limit.
