Compact business desktop for office workloads

The Lenovo ThinkCentre M720s SFF desktop PC uses an Intel Core i7-8700 processor with 6 cores and 12 threads, running at 3.20 GHz base and up to 4.60 GHz turbo. It includes 32 GB of DDR4 memory, a 128 GB M.2 SSD for the operating system and a 1 TB SSD for data. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed, and a USB keyboard and mouse are supplied.

65 W processor in a small-form-factor chassis

The CPU has a 65 W power rating and relies on the integrated Intel UHD Graphics 630 for display output. The compact SFF case uses internal airflow to manage thermals without a discrete graphics card. A DVD-ROM drive is fitted for legacy media access.

Dual-drive layout separates system and storage

The 128 GB M.2 drive holds Windows 10 Pro for fast boot and application launch, while the 1 TB SSD provides capacity for files and projects. A USB wireless dongle adds 5 GHz-capable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. Buyers who need more internal drive bays or a dedicated graphics card for GPU-accelerated workloads will find the SFF chassis limiting.

Questions about this item

How do I install the DDR4 memory modules in the 240-pin DIMM slots?

Power off the SFF chassis, open the side panel, align the notch on each DDR4 UDIMM with the 240-pin slot key, press firmly until both retention clips click, then close the case before powering on.

Which storage drive will I likely need to replace first under heavy write workloads?

The 128 GB M.2 SSD will reach its write-endurance limit before the 1 TB SSD because its smaller capacity accumulates more program-erase cycles per cell.

What thermal limit appears first when the i7-8700 runs at 4.60 GHz for extended periods?

The 65 W processor power envelope causes the compact SFF cooler to hit its dissipation ceiling, triggering frequency throttling to stay within thermal design limits.
