Mobile workstation for CAD and ISV apps

The ThinkPad P14s G2 pairs an Intel Core i5-1145G7 with an NVIDIA T500 GPU and 4GB GDDR6 video memory. 16GB DDR4-3200 memory and a 256GB M.2 2280 SSD support certified drivers for professional 3D and engineering software. A 14.0" FHD IPS multi-touch panel at 300 nits provides stylus and finger input for markup workflows. Windows 11 Pro is pre-installed for enterprise manageability.

Thermals and acoustics in daily use

The quad-core processor runs at a 2.6 GHz base with a 4.4 GHz maximum turbo while the dedicated T500 handles GPU compute. Under typical office and light modelling loads the cooling system keeps surface temperatures comfortable and fan noise low. Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201 and Bluetooth 5.1 maintain wireless connectivity without adding thermal load. The anti-glare 700:1 contrast screen reduces eye strain during long sessions.

Behaviour under sustained workloads

During extended rendering or simulation runs the CPU and GPU share a common thermal envelope so clock speeds settle below the peak turbo to maintain stability. The 256GB SSD supplies fast read access for large assemblies yet capacity may limit projects that require multiple gigabytes of active data. Buyers who need more storage or a higher-wattage GPU for heavier compute should consider other configurations. The 16GB DDR4 soldered memory cannot be upgraded after purchase.

Questions about this item

How do I install the DDR4-3200 SO-DIMM in this 14" ThinkPad, and what step is often missed?

Remove the base cover, insert the module at an angle into the SO-DIMM slot, press down until the clips lock, then reinstall the cover and screws; the step often missed is fully seating the module before locking it.

What maintenance or replacement will the 256 GB M.2 2280 SSD need later?

The SSD has no moving parts, so it requires no scheduled maintenance; replacement is only needed if capacity runs out or a SMART error appears.

Which limit appears first on the NVIDIA T500 4 GB GDDR6 GPU during sustained 3D workloads?

GPU core temperature rises until the firmware reduces clock speeds to stay within its thermal envelope, so thermal throttling is the first sustained-use limit.
