Mobile workstation for engineers

The ThinkPad P15s Gen 2 pairs an Intel Core i5-1145G7 with 24GB DDR4 and a 1TB NVMe PCIe SSD. A 15.6-inch FHD LED panel and Nvidia Quadro T500 4GB GDDR6 handle CAD and rendering tasks. Thunderbolt 4, HDMI 2.0 and Gigabit Ethernet cover desk and field connectivity. Windows 11 Pro ships pre-installed.

Replaces older dual-core ultrabooks

Moving from a two-core machine without discrete graphics cuts compile times and viewport lag in SolidWorks or Revit. The 4-core 8-thread CPU and 4GB GDDR6 GPU justify the step up when assemblies exceed 500 parts or when external 4K monitors are added. Stay with integrated graphics only if workloads stay 2D.

Simple setup, watch driver order

Windows 11 Pro boots to desktop in minutes; Lenovo Vantage then pulls the certified Quadro driver before Windows Update touches graphics. Docking via the side connector or Thunderbolt 4 works without BIOS changes. The sole friction point is the single micro-SD slot — photographers needing full-size cards must carry a dongle.
